There's a lot of cool, funny, exciting and family friendly movies out in the theatres! So why not have a movie weekend and go check out some of these great movies! I've seen almost all of them and enjoyed many. So here's a Top 5 list of must see movies that are playing at Cineplex around Calgary.1. The Grinch
The Grinch.. A classic must see movie for all ages! This remake I enjoyed.. its very detailed and modern. This version I found to be less "harsh" and more kid friendly... which kind of was the only bummer. Pretty much the story line is the same as the original Grinch. When he finds out the Whos declare they are going to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch realizes there is only one way for him to find peace: he must steal Christmas. To do so, he comes up with a plan that he will pose as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, even going so far as to trap a misfit reindeer to pull his sleigh. Meanwhile, down in Who-ville, Cindy-Lou Who-a young girl plots with her gang of friends to trap Santa Claus so she can ask him to help her overloaded mother. As this night approaches, both are getting ready with their plans for an interesting night.... Okay.. now go watch the film!!2. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
First off, in order to know this movie, you must understand its not a replica of the ballet. I'd same it has very few similarities and its more of a completely different story line. Anyways, here's what its mostly about...A young girl named Clara wants a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift from her late mother. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather's annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key, which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It's there that Clara encounters a soldier, a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger to retrieve Clara's key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world.3. Instant Family
Want a funny family movie? This one then is a must go! This sweet, good humoured film, shows lots of relatable family life and situations with a funny twist! Basically, the movie is about a couple wanted to start a family, they stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child, but when they meet three siblings, including a rebellious 15-year-old girl, they find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight. Now, the couple must try to learn the ropes of instant parenthood in the hope of becoming a family.4. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
This movie reconnects what all happened in the first Fantastic Beasts movie. This movie I will warn is very long and not as exciting as the first one.. yes.. seriously.. it wasn't as action packed as the first and you might get restless. I'm a huge fan of this series but I feel like it could have been a shorter film. I loved all the new characters that they introduced.. they all fit the part and was very cool.
The storyline mostly is all about the effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans of raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings, Albus Dumbledore's student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.5. Venom
Now, if you want an action packed movie.. go see this one. It was not disappoint! This movie was very exciting and had lots of great scenes. Probably my favourite Marvel movie. So this journalist bit the name of Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake ( a notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation). While investigating one of Drake's experiments, Eddie's body merges with the alien Venom -- leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.
